The Neva

January 30, 2007
This is the Neva (pronounced Nyeva), the heart beat of St. Petersburg. During our initial tour of the city our guide described it as a very full-watered river. This phrase has made quite an impression on me. I’m not exactly sure why. Every time I say it to myself I feel this odd familiar tension like I’m standing on my tiptoes in water up to my chin. I think if I still wrote poetry I would use it as a title.
